DIGITAL screens for video consultations with patients are being rolled out across Lancashire and South Cumbria.
Redmoor Health is delivering the project in partnership with the Healthier Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care partnership, a partnership of health and social care organisations across the region.
The Remote Video Consultation Units (RVCU) are being placed in 41 practices from next month – that’s one in each of the Primary Care Networks (PCN) across Lancashire and South Cumbria.
Each practice will host the video units on behalf of the PCNs for the benefit of all patients and healthcare organisations within that area.
It will enable patients to self-serve and connect with their GPs or other clinicians within the area via video.
The technology brings huge benefits for GPs – it will facilitate flexible working and allow the clinician to connect with patients for a consultation wherever the GP is, reducing travelling, workload and also carbon footprint.
Using the video unit as a PCN hub resource could also enable clinicians to share workload, resources and skills across the network and offer group consultations or a mixed face to face session.
It is envisaged that the video unit could also be used to support out-patient consultations with secondary care consultants in the future.
